Best Surf Season (December - March)

While Andora will never be confused with a North Atlantic slab, the best chances for clean, surfable waves fall in the heart of winter, roughly December through March. The Ligurian Sea comes alive as low-pressure systems track through the Gulf of Genoa and pump SSW and SW swell toward this SSE-facing beach. Crucially, these winter months also deliver the most reliable offshore wind flow: north and NNW winds, including strong episodes of the classic Mediterranean offshore pulse, blow straight off the land and groom the short-period swell. Average wave heights hover around 2ft (0.6m) with periods still short - 5.4 to 5.7s - so this is a beach that relies on clean, windless texture rather than raw power. January and December offer the highest percentage of ideal surfing conditions at 17 percent, making them the standout windows in an otherwise fickle surf year. The North Atlantic Oscillation matters here too: when the NAO turns negative, the upper-level storm track often dips south and re-energizes Mediterranean cyclogenesis, giving Andora its best swell-producing windows. Conversely, strongly positive NAO phases tend to keep the Atlantic storm train to the north and leave the Ligurian Sea under high pressure and flat.
