Hidden within a narrow inlet between the islands of Gan and Gadhdhoo, Tiger Stripes is an emerging gem that’s quickly earning a reputation among local surfers hungry for fresh waves. Its name is no coincidence—distinctive, narrow gouges carved into the reef create a striped pattern visible from above, a visual signature for an equally distinct wave. When conditions align, this spot delivers solid, punchy surf, though smaller swells can leave it feeling a bit flat and unremarkable. Tiger Stripes comes alive with Southeast and Southwest swells, handling wave heights from a modest 2 feet (0.6 meters) upward. The standout feature here is the left—a demanding take-off that launches you into a long, speed-driven wall, culminating in an inside tube section that wraps up neatly before fading into the channel. It’s a challenging ride that rewards skill and commitment. In contrast, the rights are smaller and more forgiving, offering an easier exit but lacking the excitement of their left-hand counterpart. The spot handles all tide stages—low, mid, and high—with optimum performance under a steady Northwest wind. Despite its tendency to underwhelm during marginal swells, Tiger Stripes often holds more size than neighboring breaks, especially when the energy is up. Best Surf Season (December - March)

The northeast monsoon takes command across the Maldives from December through March, setting up the most consistent stretch of clean, rideable surf at Tiger Stripes. During these four months, the wind is ideal 57-64% of the time, with the strongest offshore components coming from the N and NW quadrants. The average swell height sits between 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) and periods climb from 9.4s to 10.6s, so while Tiger Stripes rarely sees XXL power, the ESE-to-S energy arrives with order and punch. This is the prime window for long, rippable walls on the SSE-facing reef.
