August: Bigger Swell and the Highest Summer Clean-Session Ratio

August maintains the SSW dominance at 89.7% and adds more size: 49.6% of waves in the 1-1.5m (3.3-4.9ft) range, 4.9% in the 1.5-2m (4.9-6.6ft) class, and a small but notable share of 2-2.5m (6.6-8.2ft) waves. Average swell height holds at 1.1m (3.6ft) and average period at 13.7s. The combined SSW/SW/S window keeps virtually all incoming energy in the favorable quadrant, and added pulses from tropical storms and hurricanes in the eastern Pacific can quickly elevate size well above the monthly mean.

Wind becomes even more cooperative, with ideal surfing conditions 41% of the time. WNW 13.3%, NW 10.7%, W 9.5% and NNW 7.8% provide a solid groomed component, while SE 10.8% and WSW 6.2% are the main challengers. It is the wettest month of the year at 6.90 mm/day and the warmest water month at 30.9°C, so expect humid, tropical conditions and occasional heavy downpours. Still, August is a hidden gem for Playa Bruja: statistically the swell is good, the winds are more favorable, and when a hurricane or southern-hemisphere groundswell lines up, it can be firing.
