Its proximity to Acapulco makes it a convenient option for travelers, though its true character is defined by a lively stretch of sand flanked by upscale clubs and striking tropical scenery. While it doesn’t pack the raw power of Pascuales or Puerto Escondido, Revolcadero offers a distinct experience for those willing to explore beyond the usual heavy hitters. Surf here can be fickle, but when the conditions align, this peaky beachbreak wakes up with waves ranging from 4 to 12 feet. The optimal swell direction originates from the southwest, though swells from the south and northwest can also produce rideable lines. The seafloor is a blend of uneven reef and sand, creating a mix of wave types, with right-hand point breaks dominating the lineup. For the best shape, pair a southwest swell with a northeast breeze. Tides are not overly critical—low, mid, and high all have their moments—but this break is best suited for expert surfers wielding shortboards, funboards, longboards, fishes, or bodyboards. Prime season runs through summer and autumn, when the swell window is most consistent. Access can be a bit tricky, as sections of the beach are fronted by exclusive resorts, but the crowd factor is generally manageable. The local vibe remains mellow, adding to the appeal for a session without the usual scramble. Revolcadero's south-facing open-Pacific exposure is all about southern-hemisphere groundswell and eastern Pacific tropical energy, so the year is shaped by those sources rather than the usual North Pacific winter gales. The most reliable all-round windows come in spring and autumn. From March to May, SSW and SW swells switch on, with average wave heights climbing from around 3.5ft (1.1m) to 4-5ft (1.3m), periods stretching to 13.7-14.2s, and most waves falling into the fun 3-5ft (1-1.5m) range. By April and May, an increasing share of 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) energy appears. October and November are just as valuable because the surf stays respectable while ideal offshore/north-wind reliability builds back to 55-60% after the rainy season.
