Best Surf Season (October - March)

The northeast monsoon, known locally as Amihan, is the engine that drives Marami Beach through the best half of the year. A strong Siberian high-pressure cell pumps cool, dry air southeast across the Philippine Sea, and the trade-wind fetch builds a consistent belt of N, NNE, NE and ENE swell into the beach's NNE-facing shoreline. Average wave heights climb from around 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) in October to 6-6.5ft (1.8-2.0m) by mid-winter, with average periods sitting in the 9.4-10.4 second range. This is the window for the most powerful, rideable surf of the year. The catch? The same NE flow that makes the swell so consistent also blows straight onshore much of the time, so clean sessions are usually tied to early morning lulls or brief pulses of south to southwest offshore wind from passing troughs. Still, when the wind lines up, this stretch of coast can dish out punchy, hollow walls.
