Best Surf Season (October - March)

Praia da Vieira is a classic North Atlantic beachbreak that saves its best work for the colder months. Once autumn's first deep lows begin marching across the Atlantic, the average groundswell climbs toward 8ft (2.4m) and the average period stretches into the 12-13s range. The west-northwest open exposure lines up perfectly with the dominant W, WNW and NW swells, while the frequent easterly offshore windows (ONO-O-OSO-SO) keep the faces clean. December and January are the statistical peak, but October through March consistently offer the most powerful, organized surf of the year. When the NAO dips negative, storms track closer to Iberia and the beach can turn XL. This is when your step-up board and reef booties earn their keep.
