Best Surf Season (November - February)

The heart of winter brings the most consistent and powerful swell to Marinaretti. As the North Atlantic storm track intensifies, long-period groundswells from the S through SW window become more frequent. Average wave heights hover around 0.9-1.0m with periods in the rideable 5.6-5.8s range, though occasional pulses push into the 1.5m+ range. More importantly, the frequency of offshore winds from the N-NNW quadrant peaks during these months, with ideal wind conditions occurring 24-31% of the time. This combination delivers the best quality surf of the year, with clean, punchy waves peeling along the beach.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & October)

Shoulder months see a gradual transition. Swell heights average 0.7-0.8m and periods shorten slightly to 5.0-5.5s. While the swell window remains active, the wind patterns become less reliable. The number of days with clean offshore flow drops to 16-23%, and onshore winds from the S-SW increase, often chopping up wave faces. Still, when a strong low pressure system aligns with a northerly wind event, Marinaretti can produce fun, rippable waves.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

Summer brings the doldrums. The Mediterranean settles into a high-pressure pattern, suppressing swell generation. Average wave heights plummet to 0.5-0.6m with periods under 5s, resulting in mostly small, weak, and often messy conditions. Offshore wind odds drop to a mere 12-15%, and the prevailing onshore breezes from the S-SW further degrade what little swell exists. This is the time for a groveler and a patient mindset; waves are typically micro and only suitable for longboard or foamie sessions during rare favorable windows.

January: The Winter Peak

January sees the full force of the Mediterranean winter. Average wave height climbs to 0.9m with a period of 5.7s. Swell arrives most frequently from the W (16.3%) and WSW (15.5%), but the optimal S through SW directions also contribute significantly (S 6.5%, SSW 5.5%, SW 7.1%). While W-swath swells are not ideal, they often wrap in and combine with the southerly components. The wind blows offshore from the N-NNW complex nearly 30% of the time (N 9.8%, NNE 8.9%, NE 8.0%, NNW 8.7%), creating clean conditions. When a strong Atlantic low stalls in the Golfe du Lion, Marinaretti lights up with solid SSW groundswell and crisp offshore flow – that's when the spot really shines.
