Average wave heights hover around 0.9-1.0m with periods in the rideable 5.6-5.8s range, though occasional pulses push into the 1.5m+ range. More importantly, the frequency of offshore winds from the N-NNW quadrant peaks during these months, with ideal wind conditions occurring 24-31% of the time. This combination delivers the best quality surf of the year, with clean, punchy waves peeling along the beach.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & October)

Shoulder months see a gradual transition. Swell heights average 0.7-0.8m and periods shorten slightly to 5.0-5.5s. While the swell window remains active, the wind patterns become less reliable. The number of days with clean offshore flow drops to 16-23%, and onshore winds from the S-SW increase, often chopping up wave faces. Still, when a strong low pressure system aligns with a northerly wind event, Marinaretti can produce fun, rippable waves.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

Summer brings the doldrums. The Mediterranean settles into a high-pressure pattern, suppressing swell generation. Average wave heights plummet to 0.5-0.6m with periods under 5s, resulting in mostly small, weak, and often messy conditions. Offshore wind odds drop to a mere 12-15%, and the prevailing onshore breezes from the S-SW further degrade what little swell exists. This is the time for a groveler and a patient mindset; waves are typically micro and only suitable for longboard or foamie sessions during rare favorable windows.

November: The Season Fires Up

November sees a substantial jump in surf quality. Average wave height reaches 0.9m with a period of 5.6s. Swell from the S (10.7%), SSE (10.5%), and SE (11.6%) reveals increased storm activity in the Tyrrhenian and Ionian basins. Optimal directions like SSW (7.6%) and SW (7.9%) are well represented.
