Best Surf Season (November - February)

The heart of winter brings the most consistent and powerful swell to Marinaretti. As the North Atlantic storm track intensifies, long-period groundswells from the S through SW window become more frequent. Average wave heights hover around 0.9-1.0m with periods in the rideable 5.6-5.8s range, though occasional pulses push into the 1.5m+ range. More importantly, the frequency of offshore winds from the N-NNW quadrant peaks during these months, with ideal wind conditions occurring 24-31% of the time. This combination delivers the best quality surf of the year, with clean, punchy waves peeling along the beach.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & October)

Shoulder months see a gradual transition. Swell heights average 0.7-0.8m and periods shorten slightly to 5.0-5.5s. While the swell window remains active, the wind patterns become less reliable. The number of days with clean offshore flow drops to 16-23%, and onshore winds from the S-SW increase, often chopping up wave faces. Still, when a strong low pressure system aligns with a northerly wind event, Marinaretti can produce fun, rippable waves.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

Summer brings the doldrums. The Mediterranean settles into a high-pressure pattern, suppressing swell generation. Average wave heights plummet to 0.5-0.6m with periods under 5s, resulting in mostly small, weak, and often messy conditions. Offshore wind odds drop to a mere 12-15%, and the prevailing onshore breezes from the S-SW further degrade what little swell exists. This is the time for a groveler and a patient mindset; waves are typically micro and only suitable for longboard or foamie sessions during rare favorable windows.

October: Autumn Revival Underway

October marks a more significant return of surf energy. Average wave height rises to 0.7m with a period of 5.0s. The swell direction mix becomes more favorable: while W (16.2%) remains important, S (14.0%), SSE (11.4%), and SW (7.4%) gain traction. This means more swell within the optimal windows. Ideal wind days climb to 16%. Winds from the N-NNW quadrant increase again, but still, the ESE (14.4%) and SE (11.2%) winds are frequent onshore troublemakers. The combination of increasing swell and occasional offshore flow makes October a promising month for good conditions, especially during the second half.
