Summer in Sydney brings lighter, more variable winds and a noticeable drop in consistency. From November through February, the offshore wind windows shrink to just 12-18%, with frequent seabreezes from the NE and E turning the waves bumpy. The swell mix shifts toward shorter-period E and NE windswell, averaging 1.5-1.6m and periods around 8.3-8.8s. While it’s not firing, early mornings can still deliver fun, groveling waves before the onshores kick in. For the best chance of a clean session, target a south swell with a westerly breeze – but be ready for crowded banks.

December: Early Summer Lull

December is the official start of summer, and the ocean reflects it. Offshore wind hits a low of 15% – the worst of the year.
