If you are chasing the most size and power at The Point, the core winter months are your window. The North Atlantic subtropical high settles into a more favorable winter position, tightening the pressure gradient and spinning up a steady conveyor belt of NE, NNE and ENE swell. Average wave heights climb to 1.5-1.6m (5-5.5ft) and average periods push to 10.0s, giving this west-facing setup meaningful, long-period punch. The true westerly groundswell remains rare in the climatological data, so the best surf is almost always built from long-range NE/ENE energy that lines up on the reef and is then groomed by consistent offshore E/ENE winds. You trade a bit of glassy perfection in the summer for size and power in the winter, and that is a trade most surfers will happily make.
