Tres Palmas is powered by the Atlantic. Although this coastline faces southwest, the wave rose is dominated by a powerful NE-ENE signal that wraps into the bay, and it hits its stride from November through March. Average heights climb to 1.5-1.6m (5ft) as the North Atlantic storm track fires long-period swell into the region, with periods hovering at the critical 10-second mark. The persistent Bermuda-Azores High keeps the trades blowing from the NNE through E quadrant 62-70 percent of the time, and that offshore flow grooms the NE-ENE swell into clean, rippable lines. December and January stand out for the heaviest and most consistent pulses. When the NAO cooperates, the winter months can produce that perfect combination of size, period, and offshore wind that Tres Palmas is known for.
