Offshore winds from the east and southeast sectors blow 12-14% of the time, often aligning with passing high-pressure systems for clean, semi-glass conditions. Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transitional months see the North Atlantic storm machine start to slow down (April) or begin to rev up (September). Swell heights average 0.8-0.9m with shorter periods around 5.3-5.6s. While inconsistent, westerly swells still show up, and offshore wind percentages hover around 12-13%. The best days come when a late-season or early-season low-pressure system sends a pulse of long-period swell, but conditions are often small and grovelly.

The Mediterranean summer high-pressure regime locks in, flattening the swell. Average heights drop to just 0.7m with short, weak periods (5.0-5.3s). The dominant swell direction shifts to a mix of NW and WNW but in a very small, low-energy window. Offshore breezes from the east and northeast actually become more frequent (up to 16% in July/August), but the lack of significant groundswell means surfable waves are rare. It's a time for longboard cruises on the tiny bumps or days spent enjoying the beach.

February: Consistent Westerly Flow

February is nearly a carbon copy of January, with average swell at 1.4m and a period of 6.5s. The W (17.5%) and WNW (12.9%) directions continue to dominate, while WSW adds another 9.0%. Over 25% of all swell falls into the 1-2m range, producing fun, solid waves on the better days. Wind patterns shift slightly — the onshore westerly quadrant (WSW through WNW) accounts for 27.7% of the time, while offshore easterlies (E through SE) total just 6.3%. The best surf comes from quick-moving Atlantic lows that track south of Crete, swinging the fetch into the NW quadrant before the wind clocks around to an onshore direction. That magical window of light east winds and a healthy groundswell is what keeps the winter stoke going.
