Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic winter storm track fires up consistently from October through March, delivering a steady diet of W, WNW, and NW swell to Falasarna's west-facing beach. Average swell heights range from 1.1m to 1.5m with periods frequently climbing into the 6-9s range, offering punchy, rideable waves. Offshore winds from the east and southeast sectors blow 12-14% of the time, often aligning with passing high-pressure systems for clean, semi-glass conditions. This is the prime window for scoring fun, rippable surf.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transitional months see the North Atlantic storm machine start to slow down (April) or begin to rev up (September). Swell heights average 0.8-0.9m with shorter periods around 5.3-5.6s. While inconsistent, westerly swells still show up, and offshore wind percentages hover around 12-13%. The best days come when a late-season or early-season low-pressure system sends a pulse of long-period swell, but conditions are often small and grovelly.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

The Mediterranean summer high-pressure regime locks in, flattening the swell. Average heights drop to just 0.7m with short, weak periods (5.0-5.3s). The dominant swell direction shifts to a mix of NW and WNW but in a very small, low-energy window. Offshore breezes from the east and northeast actually become more frequent (up to 16% in July/August), but the lack of significant groundswell means surfable waves are rare. It's a time for longboard cruises on the tiny bumps or days spent enjoying the beach.

November: Consistent Swell Returns

November sees a significant jump in surf quality. Average wave height climbs to 1.1m with a period of 6.1s, and the swell windows open wide. The W (12.7%), WNW (10.9%), and WSW (9.4%) directions combine for over 33% of the total swell, much of it in the 1-2m range. The North Atlantic is now in full swing, with deep lows sending long-period pulses toward Greece. Offshore wind frequency reaches 14%, with the NE (21.0%) and ENE (10.5%) providing clean sideshore to offshore conditions. The combination of strong westerly groundswell and morning light winds can produce pumping sessions at Falasarna. This month often delivers the first true firing days of the winter.
