Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic winter storm track fires up consistently from October through March, delivering a steady diet of W, WNW, and NW swell to Falasarna's west-facing beach. Average swell heights range from 1.1m to 1.5m with periods frequently climbing into the 6-9s range, offering punchy, rideable waves. Offshore winds from the east and southeast sectors blow 12-14% of the time, often aligning with passing high-pressure systems for clean, semi-glass conditions. This is the prime window for scoring fun, rippable surf.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transitional months see the North Atlantic storm machine start to slow down (April) or begin to rev up (September). Swell heights average 0.8-0.9m with shorter periods around 5.3-5.6s. While inconsistent, westerly swells still show up, and offshore wind percentages hover around 12-13%. The best days come when a late-season or early-season low-pressure system sends a pulse of long-period swell, but conditions are often small and grovelly.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

The Mediterranean summer high-pressure regime locks in, flattening the swell. Average heights drop to just 0.7m with short, weak periods (5.0-5.3s). The dominant swell direction shifts to a mix of NW and WNW but in a very small, low-energy window. Offshore breezes from the east and northeast actually become more frequent (up to 16% in July/August), but the lack of significant groundswell means surfable waves are rare. It's a time for longboard cruises on the tiny bumps or days spent enjoying the beach.

June: Flattest of the Year

June is the absolute bottom of the swell cycle. Average wave height remains at 0.7m, and the period drops to 5.0s — the shortest of the year. The swell direction spectrum is dominated by WNW (42.7%), but the vast majority of these waves are under 0.5m (13.5%) or in the 0.5-1m range (20%). Only a tiny fraction reaches 1m+. Offshore wind conditions are poor, with ideal directions (E, ESE, SE) totaling just 1.7%. The onshore westerly winds blow 41.1% of the time, ruining the potential for any clean small waves. Surfable days are few and far between — think longboard micro-sessions or a complete rest month.
