While the dominant swell direction rarely aligns with the spot's ideal north quadrant, the powerful, long-period SW groundswells wrap into the bay, offering more size and shape. This is when the percentage of offshore winds peaks, as the subtropical high strengthens, funneling clean, sideshore breezes from the SSW and SW across the lineup. Still, the periods remain long (12-13s), and when the breeze cooperates from the S or SSW, waves become punchy and hollow on the point. Expect some overhead days mixed with wind-affected sessions.

Low Surf Season (November - February)

Summer brings a milder synoptic pattern. The South Pacific storm track retreats slightly, and average swell heights hold steady but with a smaller percentage of clean, long-period energy. The wind ideal percentage dips into the low 60s, and the stronger thermal flows can produce afternoon onshores. However, morning glass-offs and SW pulses still provide plenty of rideable, fun-sized waves. This is a reliable period for smaller, rippable conditions with the occasional clean window.

December: Early Summer Rut – Still Rideable but Less Consistent

December closes the year with an average swell of 1.6m and period 12.4s. Swell direction is back to mostly WSW (72.5%) and SW (19.1%), with minimal north quadrant. Wave heights are often in the 1-1.5m range (28.3%) and 1.5-2m (35.4%), offering fun-sized waves. Wind ideal drops to 62%, with strong offshore from SSW (22.1%) and SW (37.8%). However, the onshore component from N (2.7%) and WNW (3.1%) is similar. The main issue is the reduced long-period consistency and occasional summer afternoon sea breeze. Still, mornings provide clean, rippable waves. For smaller wave enthusiasts, this is a reliable time to score playful surf at the point.
