Low Surf Season (November - February)

Summer brings a milder synoptic pattern. The South Pacific storm track retreats slightly, and average swell heights hold steady but with a smaller percentage of clean, long-period energy. The wind ideal percentage dips into the low 60s, and the stronger thermal flows can produce afternoon onshores. However, morning glass-offs and SW pulses still provide plenty of rideable, fun-sized waves. This is a reliable period for smaller, rippable conditions with the occasional clean window.

February: Late Summer Swell with Steady Offshore Flow

February mirrors January with an average swell height of 1.6m and period of 12.8s. The swell direction remains overwhelmingly WSW (72.7%) and SW (16.8%), no north quadrant energy. This means waves wrap in with long period, creating solid lefts at the point. Wind conditions are ideal 62% of the time, with the strongest offshore component from SSW (19.1%) and SW (33.6%). These winds are light to moderate, keeping the surf clean and lined up. The onshore flow from N (3.4%) is minor but can spoil a session. Expect fun-sized waves in the 1-1.5m range most often, with occasional heavier sets pushing 2m. The key is timing the morning offshore window.
