While the dominant swell direction rarely aligns with the spot's ideal north quadrant, the powerful, long-period SW groundswells wrap into the bay, offering more size and shape. This is when the percentage of offshore winds peaks, as the subtropical high strengthens, funneling clean, sideshore breezes from the SSW and SW across the lineup. Fair Surf Season (June - August)

Winter in the Southern Hemisphere delivers a steady diet of solid SW and W swell, but the wind consistency drops slightly. The dominant high-pressure cell weakens, allowing more variable conditions, including occasional strengthening of the onshore flow. Still, the periods remain long (12-13s), and when the breeze cooperates from the S or SSW, waves become punchy and hollow on the point. Expect some overhead days mixed with wind-affected sessions.

Low Surf Season (November - February)

Summer brings a milder synoptic pattern. The South Pacific storm track retreats slightly, and average swell heights hold steady but with a smaller percentage of clean, long-period energy. The wind ideal percentage dips into the low 60s, and the stronger thermal flows can produce afternoon onshores. However, morning glass-offs and SW pulses still provide plenty of rideable, fun-sized waves. This is a reliable period for smaller, rippable conditions with the occasional clean window.

November: Late Spring Consistency with a Slight Dip in Swell

November sees average swell drop slightly to 1.6m, period 12.4s. Swell direction remains dominated by WSW (57.9%) and SW (34.9%), still providing solid groundswell. Wave heights are concentrated in the 1-2m range, with some 2-2.5m (6.3%). Wind ideal percentage holds at 67%, with SSW (24.6%) and SW (36.7%) providing clean offshore flow. The onshore flow from N (2.4%) is low. Surf quality remains high, especially in the mornings. The slight reduction in period means waves can be a bit less powerful, but still punchy and rippable. This month marks the end of the best season before summer winds become more variable.
