Best Surf Season (April - June)

As the Indian Ocean monsoon trough shifts north, the trade winds relax and One Palm Point enters its prime window. During these months, long-period groundswells from the deep south (SSW to SW) wrap around the point, delivering consistent, powerful waves averaging 1.5 to 1.8m. More importantly, the wind regime becomes dominated by favourable S to WSW offshore breezes, grooming the waves into clean, rippable lines. With ideal wind conditions 48-60% of the time, this is the epicentre of the year for surfers chasing quality, smooth faces and decent size.

Fair Surf Season (November - March)

The fair season coincides with the early and late winter monsoon. Swell heights hold steady around 1.5m with good periods of 12-13 seconds, primarily from the SSW to WSW quadrants. However, the wind blows onshore from the NW to WNW more frequently, limiting clean conditions to roughly 15-42% of the time. When the offshore windows align with the occasional wrap-around swell, the point can fire, but consistency is lacking; you'll need to pick the right days.

Low Surf Season (July - October)

Mid to late summer sees the Indian Ocean roaring with powerful long-period swells, peaking at 2.0-2.1m in August and September. Yet, these months are humbling for One Palm Point. The wind becomes overwhelmingly cross-onshore from the SE to SSE, with ideal offshore conditions dropping to a mere 10-21%. The combination of big, raw swell and choppy, onshore wind makes for challenging, often unsurfable conditions. Only the rare, fleeting window of a southerly shift offers hope.

January: Deep South Swell and Offshore Windows

January averages 1.5m of swell with a period of 12.1s, offering a mix of mid-range to long-period energy. Almost all of the wave action comes from the S, SSW, and SW directions, with SSW leading at 37.5% and SW at 27.5%. While these angles are not ideal for the NW-facing point, the longer period allows for some refraction around the headland, producing rideable, punchy waves in the 1-1.5m range. Wind conditions are a mixed bag: only 15% of the time are winds offshore (S to WSW), while the dominant wind from WNW (29.6%) and NW (12.9%) delivers choppy, onshore conditions. Look for brief prefrontal squalls or early morning windows when the breeze swings southerly.
