Best Surf Season (April - June)

As the Indian Ocean monsoon trough shifts north, the trade winds relax and One Palm Point enters its prime window. During these months, long-period groundswells from the deep south (SSW to SW) wrap around the point, delivering consistent, powerful waves averaging 1.5 to 1.8m. More importantly, the wind regime becomes dominated by favourable S to WSW offshore breezes, grooming the waves into clean, rippable lines. With ideal wind conditions 48-60% of the time, this is the epicentre of the year for surfers chasing quality, smooth faces and decent size.

Fair Surf Season (November - March)

The fair season coincides with the early and late winter monsoon. Swell heights hold steady around 1.5m with good periods of 12-13 seconds, primarily from the SSW to WSW quadrants. However, the wind blows onshore from the NW to WNW more frequently, limiting clean conditions to roughly 15-42% of the time. When the offshore windows align with the occasional wrap-around swell, the point can fire, but consistency is lacking; you'll need to pick the right days.

Low Surf Season (July - October)

Mid to late summer sees the Indian Ocean roaring with powerful long-period swells, peaking at 2.0-2.1m in August and September. Yet, these months are humbling for One Palm Point. The wind becomes overwhelmingly cross-onshore from the SE to SSE, with ideal offshore conditions dropping to a mere 10-21%. The combination of big, raw swell and choppy, onshore wind makes for challenging, often unsurfable conditions. Only the rare, fleeting window of a southerly shift offers hope.

May: Peak Consistency and Power

May continues the stellar trend with an average swell height of 1.7m and a long period of 14.2s. The swell becomes stronger, with 61.5% from SSW and a healthy 27.4% from S. The S direction is actually beneficial here—it brings a bit more wrap-around and often combines with the SSW for a clean swell window. Ideal wind conditions reach 60%, the highest of the year. The ESE and SE winds (54%) are side-offshore, lining up perfectly with the point to groom the waves into long, clean lines. Expect pumping sets in the 1.5-2.5m range, especially during the second half of the month. This is heavy, long-period groundswell at its best.
