Best Surf Season (April - June)

As the Indian Ocean monsoon trough shifts north, the trade winds relax and One Palm Point enters its prime window. During these months, long-period groundswells from the deep south (SSW to SW) wrap around the point, delivering consistent, powerful waves averaging 1.5 to 1.8m. More importantly, the wind regime becomes dominated by favourable S to WSW offshore breezes, grooming the waves into clean, rippable lines. With ideal wind conditions 48-60% of the time, this is the epicentre of the year for surfers chasing quality, smooth faces and decent size.

Fair Surf Season (November - March)

The fair season coincides with the early and late winter monsoon. Swell heights hold steady around 1.5m with good periods of 12-13 seconds, primarily from the SSW to WSW quadrants. However, the wind blows onshore from the NW to WNW more frequently, limiting clean conditions to roughly 15-42% of the time. When the offshore windows align with the occasional wrap-around swell, the point can fire, but consistency is lacking; you'll need to pick the right days.

Low Surf Season (July - October)

Mid to late summer sees the Indian Ocean roaring with powerful long-period swells, peaking at 2.0-2.1m in August and September. Yet, these months are humbling for One Palm Point. The wind becomes overwhelmingly cross-onshore from the SE to SSE, with ideal offshore conditions dropping to a mere 10-21%. The combination of big, raw swell and choppy, onshore wind makes for challenging, often unsurfable conditions. Only the rare, fleeting window of a southerly shift offers hope.

July: Big Swell, Challenging Winds

July delivers the largest average swell so far: 2.0m with a period of 14.5s. The swell is powerful and heavy, with 44% from SSW and 37.5% from S, plus a solid 6.3% from SSE. Many waves register in the 1.5-2.5m range, offering plenty of size. However, the wind becomes a real adversary. Ideal offshore conditions drop to 32%, as the SE wind dominates a whopping 55.8% of the time. That SE wind is cross-shore for the point, creating lumpy, textured faces. You'll need a sharp eye for the brief windows when the wind backs to SSE or S, cleaning up the waves. When it aligns, July can serve up some of the biggest and most powerful waves of the year, but expect windy, messy conditions more often than not.
