Best Surf Season (April - June)

As the Indian Ocean monsoon trough shifts north, the trade winds relax and One Palm Point enters its prime window. During these months, long-period groundswells from the deep south (SSW to SW) wrap around the point, delivering consistent, powerful waves averaging 1.5 to 1.8m. More importantly, the wind regime becomes dominated by favourable S to WSW offshore breezes, grooming the waves into clean, rippable lines. With ideal wind conditions 48-60% of the time, this is the epicentre of the year for surfers chasing quality, smooth faces and decent size.

Fair Surf Season (November - March)

The fair season coincides with the early and late winter monsoon. Swell heights hold steady around 1.5m with good periods of 12-13 seconds, primarily from the SSW to WSW quadrants. However, the wind blows onshore from the NW to WNW more frequently, limiting clean conditions to roughly 15-42% of the time. When the offshore windows align with the occasional wrap-around swell, the point can fire, but consistency is lacking; you'll need to pick the right days.

Low Surf Season (July - October)

Mid to late summer sees the Indian Ocean roaring with powerful long-period swells, peaking at 2.0-2.1m in August and September. Yet, these months are humbling for One Palm Point. The wind becomes overwhelmingly cross-onshore from the SE to SSE, with ideal offshore conditions dropping to a mere 10-21%. The combination of big, raw swell and choppy, onshore wind makes for challenging, often unsurfable conditions. Only the rare, fleeting window of a southerly shift offers hope.

October: Light at the End of the Tunnel

October sees a slight decrease in swell height to 1.8m, but period holds at 13.7s. Swell remains dominated by S (48.0%) and SSW (39.3%), with some waves in the 2-2.5m range. Wind conditions improve marginally: ideal conditions occur 21% of the time. The SE wind, while still the majority (57.8%), begins to moderate in strength, and the first signs of the monsoon transition bring more variable directions. The frequency of onshore NW wind is still low, but offshore windows from SSE to S increase (SSE at 22.9%). This makes for more surfable days than August or September. Early morning sessions often have cleaner surf before the trades kick in. October signals the slow return to quality.
