The dominant swell comes from the NW and NNW but lacks the power to wrap effectively. Offshore wind percentages are the lowest of the year (27-30%), and the reliable northwesterly winds often have a cross-shore component. Expect small, fun-sized days suitable for longboards or soft tops, but don't expect pumping surf. Early mornings offer the best chance for clean conditions before the sea breeze kicks in.

October: The Season Kicks Into Gear

October is when the North Atlantic roars back to life. Average swell height jumps to 1.1m and period to 11.1s – solid long-period groundswell. The dominant swell is from WNW (28.9%) and NW (28.3%), but there is a notable increase in direct SW-WSW swell (9.8% total) – these are optimal directions that break more cleanly on the south-facing beach. Offshore wind frequency reaches 40%, with N (10.1%), NNE (4.5%), and NNW (13.8%) leading the way. Crucially, the wind rose shows a decline in cross-onshore NW winds (10.5%) and a rise in true offshore easterlies (E, ESE combined 14.2%).
