The wave period hovers around 9s, which translates to powerful, long-period swell that can produce heavy, firing conditions when the wind cooperates. However, the northeast trades dominate the region during these months—NE and ENE winds blow over 70% of the time, directly onshore at this Ost-Nord-Ost facing beach. As a result, the surf is often choppy, messy, and blown out. The wind is ideal only 1–2% of the time, meaning you need a rare westerly wind event or a local sea breeze to salvage a session. Low Surf Season (May - September)
From late spring through early autumn, the southwest monsoon takes hold, delivering the highest frequency of offshore winds (SW–WNW). Average wave heights drop to a modest 0.9–1.0m with periods in the 8–9s range, resulting in small, fun-sized, groveling surf. The dominant swell direction shifts from the winter’s NE/ENE to a mix of E and even some S–SW pulses, but those southerly swells are poorly exposed at Lucky Point and rarely produce rideable waves. While you won’t find any epic barrels here, the consistent offshore winds make this the most reliable period for a longboard or a groveler, with clean, rippable walls that stay fun all day.
