Swell heights average 1.8-1.9m with periods exceeding 12 seconds, bringing punchy to powerful surf. The wind often cleans up the ocean surface, creating rippable conditions.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transition months offer a blend of winter's swell potential with improving or degrading conditions. April sees the start of the good winter pattern with 42% ideal wind and periods increasing to 11.5s. September still carries heavy SW swell but wind consistency drops to 34% as the trade winds shift. You can score solid waves but with more variable conditions.

Low Surf Season (October - March)

The austral spring and summer months are characterized by persistent southerly winds and a dominance of shorter-period S/SSW swell that rarely aligns with the optimal west-northwest exposure. Ideal wind percentages plummet to 16-24%, and the average period hovers around 9-10 seconds, often resulting in average to choppy surf. The rare frontal system may bring a brief window of W-NW swell, but good days are few and far between.

August: Steady State

August continues the winter bounty but with subtle changes. Average swell height remains 1.9m and the period maxes out at 12.2s, the longest of the year. SW swell still leads at 44.3%, but WSW drops to 11.2% as the storm track begins to shift north. Ideal wind declines slightly to 42%, with easterly winds still dominant but more variable. The pressure gradient weakens a touch, allowing an occasional southerly push. Still, the overall picture is very good—solid, long-period waves are the norm, and enough clean days exist to keep the stoke high. August is the last full month of prime conditions before autumn's grip loosens.
