Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transition months offer a blend of winter's swell potential with improving or degrading conditions. April sees the start of the good winter pattern with 42% ideal wind and periods increasing to 11.5s. September still carries heavy SW swell but wind consistency drops to 34% as the trade winds shift. You can score solid waves but with more variable conditions.

Low Surf Season (October - March)

The austral spring and summer months are characterized by persistent southerly winds and a dominance of shorter-period S/SSW swell that rarely aligns with the optimal west-northwest exposure. Ideal wind percentages plummet to 16-24%, and the average period hovers around 9-10 seconds, often resulting in average to choppy surf. The rare frontal system may bring a brief window of W-NW swell, but good days are few and far between.

June: Prime Time

June is the pinnacle of the surf season at Jake's Point. Average swell height holds at 1.8m, period remains 11.9s, but the quality is exceptional. SW swell now comprises nearly 38% of the total, and WSW adds 14.8%—together over half the swell comes from optimal directions. Wind conditions stay excellent with 48% ideal offshore wind, mainly from E and ESE at gentle to moderate speeds. The winter jet stream drives a constant parade of deep lows, while high pressure over the Tasman locks in consistent east-northeast airflow.
