Combined with the highest probability of offshore easterly winds (up to 48% in June), this window delivers the most consistent and quality waves. Swell heights average 1.8-1.9m with periods exceeding 12 seconds, bringing punchy to powerful surf. The wind often cleans up the ocean surface, creating rippable conditions.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transition months offer a blend of winter's swell potential with improving or degrading conditions. April sees the start of the good winter pattern with 42% ideal wind and periods increasing to 11.5s. September still carries heavy SW swell but wind consistency drops to 34% as the trade winds shift. You can score solid waves but with more variable conditions.

Low Surf Season (October - March)

The austral spring and summer months are characterized by persistent southerly winds and a dominance of shorter-period S/SSW swell that rarely aligns with the optimal west-northwest exposure. Ideal wind percentages plummet to 16-24%, and the average period hovers around 9-10 seconds, often resulting in average to choppy surf. The rare frontal system may bring a brief window of W-NW swell, but good days are few and far between.

February: Transitional Beginnings

February still sits deep in summer, but signs of change emerge. Average swell height drops slightly to 1.8m, while the period nudges up to 9.5s. Swell continues to stream from the south and south-southwest (78.7% combined), still far from ideal. The wind picture improves marginally—ideal offshore wind reaches 26% of the time thanks to a subtle increase in ESE and SE flow. Yet the dominant southerly winds (over 54% from S and SSE) still ruin most days. The pressure gradient weakens slightly as the monsoon trough drifts south, allowing an occasional easterly push. Expect average, punchy surf when the wind aligns, but consistency remains low.
